About the
Dyckman Farmhouse Museum
The Dyckman Farmhouse, the last Dutch colonial style farmhouse in Manhattan, was built c. 1784 and was once the center of a thriving farm. In 1915 the farmhouse faced an uncertain future and daughters of the last Dyckman child to grow up in the house bought the property to ensure its preservation.
The farmhouse was restored and donated to the city in 1916 and has been open to the public since. The museum and its garden tells the story of rural Northern Manhattan, a landscape and a lifestyle that disappeared in the transformation from farming community to urban neighborhood. Through the story of the Dyckman family and farm the museum explores life in early 19th century rural Manhattan and the preservation of that memory in the early 20th century.
The Dyckman Farmhouse Museum is owned by the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation and is a member of the Historic House Trust of New York City.
